    Ah yes, second night (and often third) syndrome 😂. Newborns are often super sleepy the first 24 hours or so but they wake up that second night and want to cluster feed for most of the night. It’s normal but tiring.

    As an IBCLC we really don’t recommend the cradle for newborns since their necks aren’t that strong yet. The biological nurturing/laid back position is great along with the cross cradle and football/clutch holds. It gives mom more control and baby more support.

    I had an OB resident attempting to put this in a pt who was actively contracting on her own. It kept falling out and he kept trying to put it back in. I asked if there was a chance she was already dilated enough and then he checked her and realized she was 4cm dilated and ordered Pitocin despite the baby already having variable decels. I was still on orientation and I knew we stopped pit for variables so I went to my preceptor and told her I did not agree with the plan and she agreed with me but the doc was insisting. We both refused because we weren’t going to lose our licenses due to his recklessness. The attending agreed with us thankfully.

    As a lactation consultant we aren’t fond of the overuse of Pitocin because it not only affects the baby (sleepier in general) but it affects mom’s breast milk letdown. It is used far too freely without the parents being fully informed about the ramifications it can have.

    My sisters and I were at the hospital when my mom was laboring with our baby sister. The anesthesiologist had a nurse shuttle us to an adjacent room while he applied the epidural. While we were just sitting in the dark, in the adjacent room, we heard a woman screaming and a nurse immediately shout back, "Stop screaming. You need to be quiet, or you're going to scare all the other new moms! Do you want to scare them?" The poor woman, with so much pain, said, "But it hurts!" They came to get us shortly after. I was 14, and all I could think was what an absolute jerk. She shouldn't be a nurse with that uncaring attitude.

    I was scared of pitocin. But I ended up needing it. I was on magnesium sulfate as a muscle relaxer to treat preeclampsia. But i needed to counteract that and keep up contractions too, so started pitocin and it worked out well for me.

    One of my friends and my dog Club has two uteruses and she didn’t know until she was pregnant. Luckily they caught that before her second uterus got a baby in it too. Because I can tell you right now when you’re pregnant you don’t use birth control because you think you’re safe.

    Labor is also an off label use for pitocin. It can have major side effects. I experienced about 80% of them, including hemorrhaging due to 17 hours of high level use to attempt induction. Also, if I had know it was an artificial hormone I wouldn’t have agreed. All love for my baby disappeared, I had zero emotions for 4 days, no memory of my son for the first 24-48 hours, and postpartum psychosis. I know artificial hormones always cause me to have major mental health issues including s**cidal thoughts. The doctor repeatedly apologized for everything and we learned my midwife was pulling strings behind the scenes, instead of allowing me to have informed consent.

    My last baby passed after only a few hours, due to multi organ failure. I had an emergency c section and was in the hospital for a total of 4-5 days I think, alone. I felt so helpless and cried every time I needed even the tiniest thing. I still could barely walk when I was leaving the hospital and I even apologized when they were helping me into the car. Those nurses were so amazing and hugged me so tight when I left and told me I should never be so apologetic for needing help. They were absolute angels🖤

    What if your nipples are way too big for the newborn mouth?

    • @mamanursetina
      @mamanursetina 4 часа назад

      You can still likely get a good latch. Make sure baby has a very wide open mouth by using that rooting reflex. Also choose positions that let baby be straight on the nipple and you to have a hand free to manipulate your tissue like cross cradle or football. And take good care of your nipples while baby is learning ♥️

    these nurses are so sweet, my first experience in labor was 50/50 i had a handful of nurses who actually cared and helped me while the other handful borderline ignored us and made me feel bad for not being able to breast feed my baby, even after going home it didn’t work out ; i kept trying and trying but everything was gone by week 2. i hope the next experience will be a little better but we’ll find out when it happens.

    Your videos are informative & helpful THANK YOU❤️❤️ How oxytocin is started at 8:50 If ur contracting more than 5 times in 10 minutes Or Having singular contractions lasting MORE than 90 seconds Or Your babies heart rate is decreasing with every contraction u can ask for it to be decreased

    • @mamanursetina
      @mamanursetina 4 часа назад

      Even more so the nurse should be looking to decrease the oxytocin if those things are happening ♥️

    No matter what color you are, you need someone to advocate for you, but I shudder to think what black women go through with such high mortality rates. Dr. Mark Ghalili is putting together a patient advocacy program because he believes it's more dangerous to go to the hospital alone than it is to go to court without a lawyer.

    I guess, most ppl want their child to be unique and express it. 😂 The other side of this is when you choose a 'normal' but more or less unusual/rare name and then when it's time to go to kindergarten or school... BÄM suddenly three other children in the same group/class with basically the SAME name. You call them on the playground, a third of the kids there turn their heads. Your carefully chosen baby name is the new regional trend bc APPARENTLY there are quite some parents without a plan for a name (want to look at the child when it's there and want to get an inspired idea of the kid's vibe or sth idk) or are undecided. In those cases some nurses will sometimes make suggestions (a nurse friend even told me that it's true) and will oc often recommend names that are not too common but will more likely remember ones that they recently heard or saw somewhere... Like the one of your baby 😂 eradicating one whole point for which that name was chosen. Of course, there are other broader trends, too. Like while GoT was airing noone who named their kid Sansa, Arya or Bran should be too surprised to find others having also had that brilliant, super creative idea. That is not what I mean. Also don't tell everyone beforehand what you are going to name your kid obviously😂especially not others that plan to or are pregnant or have family that is multiplying... IF you want your child to have a more unique name - in their age group at least. I don't even take it too seriously but I understand the frustration of the parents that put much thought into the name - it's meaning and how commonly it is used. Honestly I don't even have kids myself yet but a big family and many niblings. My sisters at first didn't believe our mother about this when she told how there were suddenly children in their area with the same name and around the same age as hers though she usually chose ones that weren't too outlandish but definitely not really used anywhere lately. Then my first niece was born, named at hospital with normal, beautiful but out of fashion name - two other girls in her class have the same name (both are slightly younger afaik). Could still be just correlation oc. But if you want to be sure, just keep your lips sealed and do the extra trip to the bureau and name your child after leaving hospital (if that is a legal option, where you live)

    Girl number three is refreshing, I was told after declining the epidural from a very pushy nurse that she would see what she could do but the only doctor available would be very upset about it because women are just so noisy when they don’t get it. I’m giving birth. Of course I’m going to be noisy. Please get another job if that’s too much for you.😂

    I had a friend, legally, named Jane. It didn’t suit her at ALL. Like worst name for one of the most creative vibrant people I know. So she spelled her name Jhayne. I NEVER connected it to the Plain Jane spelling of the name until she pointed it out when she mentioned getting it legally changed. How you spell it Does matter on how people perceive you! So don’t spell your child’s name completely unhinged to be Unique. People are going to think they’re idiots.

    So i had this happen every month before pregnancy and normally every period after. I was quite used to it. The only post partum thing that got me was after my second, i had acne 100 times worse than puberty. They'd pop up overnight and were the type that hurt even if you looked at them and you'd see atars if you popped one. And they burst easily. I still remember the pain of one that was in the back of my ear as i wear glasses. It was like the 4th of july behind my eyes when i put my glasses on that morning.
